Born in Tibet in 1973, Ven. Lharampa Geshe Lobsang Dawa entered monastic life in India at the age of 18 by walking to India from Tibet. After 19 years of studying and practicing, he was awarded the degree of Lharampa Geshe (Doctorate in Buddhist Philosophy) at Gelugpa University in 2010.  He also earned Honours degrees in Pramana, Perfection Sutra, Madhyamaka, Abhidarma, Vinaya, and Four Classes of Tantras.  In 2011, he went to another temple also in Southern India to learn more Buddhism specific to the Tantra Vehicle.

Ven. Lharampa Geshe Lobsang Dawa taught at Gaden Jangtse Monastic School from 2012-2013. He taught Buddhist Philosophy such as Pramana, and Perfection Sutra in Gaden Jangtse monastery. He has also taught Buddhism in Tibetan refugee settlements in India.  In May 2013, he came to Canada to Toronto to learn English.  During this time, he also taught in Taiwan.

In addition to being highly knowledgeable in Buddhist philosophy, debate, and historical texts, Ven. Lharampa Geshe Lobsang Dawa has completed many retreats and is skilled in Tantra verse offering, Torma offering, and various other ritual practices.

Here at the Land of Compassion Buddha Centre in Edmonton, Geshe Lobsang Dawa has led Guru Puja for many sessions since settling in Edmonton since January 2015.  Visitors may find Geshe Lobsang Dawa very happy with his broad smile and great joy.  He works enthusiastically at learning English.  He also speaks some Mandarin.  As one student remarked, “Geshe Dawa can always brighten my day with his contentment, humility, joy, and laughter.  His own hard work at his practice in Dharma and English always reminds me to come out of myself and appreciate life far more.  We are so grateful to have his presence here lighting our lives.  He is happiness :)”.
